Preflight and Runway Conditions
According to the pilot, a preflight inspection revealed the tarmac and runway were covered in approximately half an inch of rough ice. After back-taxiing on the runway, the pilot performed a normal run-up without any issues.
Departure and Accident Sequence
During the departure roll, the aircraft veered toward the left, departed the runway, and came to rest in a creek. The pilot reported no mechanical anomalies prior to the accident.
Aircraft Damage and Injuries
Examination of the airplane revealed damage to the left aileron. The pilot and passenger were not injured.
Weather Conditions
Wind conditions reported five minutes before the accident were 260 degrees at 16 mph gusting to 21 mph.
