What happened
On December 22, 2009, an American Airlines Boeing 737-800, identified as N916AA, was operating Flight 331 from Miami to Kingston. The aircraft arrived at Norman Manley International Airport under adverse weather conditions. Upon attempting to land on Runway 12, the plane failed to stop within the paved surface and overran the runway end.
The aircraft continued its momentum across the ground outside the airport perimeter, eventually coming to rest on a nearby beach where it broke apart.
