Pilot Account
According to the pilot, while overflying the airport, he experienced a sudden urge to go to the bathroom. He circled north of the airport and conducted a straight-in, stabilized approach to the runway with 25 degrees of flaps. As the airplane crossed the runway threshold, the pilot reduced power and completed a normal landing.
Witness Account
A witness reported that the airplane landed approximately halfway down the runway and was traveling at a high speed. The witness observed the application of brakes, followed by the airplane swerving and subsequently departing the right side of the runway. The airplane then traveled down an embankment and came to rest in a ditch.
Damage
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the wing spar and fuselage.
Mechanical Status
The pilot stated that there were no preexisting mechanical anomalies with the airplane.
