Incident Summary
During landing, after a normal touchdown on the main tires, the nose wheel began to shimmy violently. The pilot applied back pressure on the control yoke, briefly becoming airborne again. The airplane then bounced multiple times and porpoised down the runway before coming to a stop.
Postaccident Findings
Examination of the airplane revealed the nose wheel tire was crushed and partially detached from the rim. The firewall was wrinkled, the nose gear landing doors were damaged, and the nose gear strut was slightly bent. All three propeller blades were bent aft at the tips.
Runway Examination
Two propeller strike marks were found on the runway before the nose wheel contacted the ground, leaving its own impact scars. Forward of the nose wheel impact marks, four additional propeller strike marks were present.
Pilot Statement
The pilot reported that no abnormality with the nose wheel tire was observed prior to the flight.
