What happened
On May 5, 2012, a Piper PA-28RT-201T, registration N2195X, was performing a takeoff roll on a 3,300-foot runway in Mariposa, California. During the ground roll, the pilot noticed the aircraft was not reaching the necessary airspeed for liftoff. The pilot initiated an aborted takeoff; however, the aircraft could not be stopped before exiting the end of the runway and striking a ditch.
The aircraft sustained damage to the landing gear and both wings. The pilot was not injured during the event. Weather conditions at the time were visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 10 statute miles and winds from 310 degrees at 5 knots.
