What happened

On July 5, 2012, a Boeing 747-400, registration HL7473, was operating as flight KAL2711 from Gimpo International Airport (GMP) in Seoul, South Korea, to Tokyo International Airport (HND) in Japan. While approximately 100 miles north-northwest of HND, the aircraft encountered turbulence. The turbulence resulted in one serious injury to a passenger. The flight continued to its destination and landed at HND without further incident.

The investigation

The Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB) is conducting the investigation into the event. The NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist as the State of Manufacture under ICAO Annex 13.
