Accident Overview
A tailwheel-equipped airplane experienced a ground loop during takeoff from a dry, paved runway. The accident occurred while the pilot was attempting to correct for a 5-knot right crosswind. The airplane subsequently sustained substantial damage to its right wing, right horizontal stabilizer, and fuselage.
Sequence of Events
According to the pilot, during the takeoff roll the airplane began to veer to the left. The pilot applied right rudder to correct the veer, but the airplane ground-looped to the left. The right main landing gear collapsed, and the right wing and right horizontal stabilizer struck the ground.
Damage Assessment
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing, right horizontal stabilizer, and fuselage. The pilot reported no preaccident mechanical problems with the airplane.
