Event Description
During the landing roll, the pilot reported that the airplane encountered strong gusting wind. In response, he applied rudder control and braking action in an attempt to maintain alignment with the runway center. Despite these efforts, the airplane veered off the runway surface.
After departing the runway, the airplane traversed down an embankment before coming to rest in a nose-down attitude.
Damage
As a result of the event, the left wing sustained substantial damage. No other damage is specified in the report.

The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation. The pilot did not identify any issues with the aircraft's systems or controls prior to the occurrence.
