Incident Overview
A pilot on a cross-country flight received a low fuel warning indication approximately 29 miles from the intended destination. In response, the pilot decided to perform a precautionary landing on a paved road. The landing was not successful due to interference with an automobile. Subsequently, the pilot selected a nearby dirt road for a landing attempt but aborted the landing because of excessive speed.
Maneuvers and Terrain Contact
After aborting the dirt road landing, the pilot initiated a climb. During the climb, the pilot turned to the right to avoid rising terrain. However, the airplane descended during the turn. The left main landing gear then struck a small hill. The impact resulted in substantial damage to both wings and the fuselage.
Mechanical Status
The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

The aircraft sustained substantial damage to both wings and the fuselage as a result of the terrain contact.
