Remos GX Crash in Española, New Mexico (N28GX)

Accident Overview and Flight History On March 11, 2016, a Remos Aircraft GmbH Flugzeugbau Remos GX, registration N28GX, impacted terrain near Ohkay Owingeh Airport (E14) in Española, New Mexico. The private pilot and a pilot-rated passenger were fatally injured, and the aircraft was destroyed. The flight, operated by New Mexico Sport Aviation, LLC, departed Santa Fe Municipal Airport (SAF) for a personal flight. The pilot had rented the aircraft to practice takeoff and landing procedures at Los Alamos Airport (LAM), which uses a non-standard traffic pattern due to restricted airspace and noise-sensitive areas. Radar data showed the aircraft made two practice circuits at LAM before departing for E14. A satellite tracking device recorded the aircraft parked at E14 until 1518, with a final position near the approach end of runway 16 at 1627:31. No radar data was available for the final approach as the traffic pattern altitude was below coverage.
