Incident Summary
During the landing attempt, the pilot reported that the airplane's airspeed was too high while on final approach. This resulted in the aircraft overshooting the intended touchdown point. After touchdown, the pilot was unable to stop the airplane before it departed the end of the runway.
Aircraft Damage
As the airplane continued off the runway, the left wing collided with a blast fence. The aircraft then came to rest against the airport perimeter fence. The left wing sustained substantial damage. No other damage was reported.
Pilot Account
The pilot stated that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation. The pilot attributed the event to excessive airspeed on final approach and the subsequent inability to stop within the runway length.
