Accident Details
A sport pilot was conducting an approach to runway 2. While turning from left base to final, the pilot reduced engine power to near idle. At that moment, a gust of wind from the right caused the airplane to lose altitude. The pilot attempted to recover by leveling the wings and applying full power, but the airplane impacted the top of a tree. Subsequently, the aircraft struck the ground in a nose-down attitude.
Postaccident Examination
