Summary
On 4 September 2014, an incident involving a Mooney M-20 aircraft occurred within the Military Air Traffic Zone (MATZ) of military airfield EPPW. The aircraft was reported by air traffic control services after entering the active airspace without prior radio communication.
Incident Details
According to the incident report submitted to the State Commission on Aircraft Accident Investigation (PKBWL), the approach control (APP) of military airfield EPPW detected the presence of a Mooney M-20 aircraft within the active MATZ. Air traffic controllers made multiple attempts to establish radio contact with the pilot, all of which were unsuccessful. Subsequently, the controller informed FIS Poznań and APP Poznań about the airspace violation.
Cause
The probable cause of the incident was determined to be the crew's inadequate preparation regarding information about the activity of flexible elements of airspace present along the planned flight route.
Investigation and Recommendations
The investigation was supervised by Robert Ochwat and conducted by the user (the entity that reported the incident). No safety recommendations were issued by the PKBWL upon completion of the investigation, which concluded on 22 February 2016.
