Incident Overview
A pilot reported that prior to entering the traffic pattern, they did not visually verify or confirm that the landing gear positioning lights indicated the gear was extended and locked. After turning onto the base leg, the pilot deployed full flaps and conducted a memorized pre-landing checklist. However, they stated uncertainty about whether they verified that the landing gear was extended during the checklist.
The airplane subsequently touched down with the landing gear retracted. The lower fuselage sustained substantial damage as a result of the landing.
Pilot Statement
The pilot reported that there were no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation. The incident was attributed to the pilot's failure to confirm landing gear extension before landing.
Damage Assessment
The gear-up landing caused substantial damage to the lower fuselage. No other damage was reported.
