What happened
On June 3, 2015, an Embraer 170-100, registration SP-LDK, was performing an approach to Warsaw Chopin Airport (EPWA) when the crew received a "FLAP FAIL" warning. Due to the failure of the flap and slat deployment, the crew performed the landing in a clean configuration. Following the Quick Reference Handbook (QRH) procedures, the crew increased the approach speed to 175 knots (Vref 115 + 60).
Following the landing, the crew filed an Air Safety Report (ASR), and the aircraft was handed over to maintenance personnel for inspection.
The investigation
The investigation focused on identifying the source of the flap failure indication. Maintenance crews performed a verification of the aircraft systems and recorded the event in the MERLIN system. The technical inspection included a review of the CMC (Central Maintenance Computer) messages and related maintenance logs. Despite a thorough check by the technical staff, no mechanical or system irregularities were identified on the aircraft.
Findings
- The landing was conducted without the use of flaps or slats due to the FLAP FAIL warning.
- No underlying cause for the appearance of the flap failure indication could be located during the technical inspection.
