What happened
The flight crew executed a landing on runway 05 at Benin City Airport under conditions of heavy rainfall. Upon touchdown, the pilot initiated braking procedures to decelerate the aircraft. However, the airplane was unable to stop within the available runway distance and subsequently overran the paved surface.
As the aircraft transitioned onto soft ground, the landing gear sustained significant damage and was torn away from the airframe. The damaged aircraft continued to slide for approximately 300 metres before finally coming to rest in a muddy field adjacent to the runway.
Following the incident, all 68 occupants successfully disembarked from the wreckage. There were no fatalities or injuries reported among the passengers or crew members.
