Summary
On 18 June 2015, at EPPO airport, a Cessna 150 aircraft experienced an incident involving a ground vehicle. The Polish State Commission on Aircraft Accident Investigation (PKBWL) reported that the vehicle driver did not comply with an instruction from air traffic control (ATC).
Incident Details
The crew of the Cessna 150 began engine start and pre-departure procedures on runway 28. Due to ongoing maintenance work on that runway, ATC instructed ground personnel via radio to vacate the runway because of the planned departure. The controller then gave the pilot taxi directions via taxiways G and A to the holding point for runway 28.
Meanwhile, the ground vehicle moved toward the threshold of runway 28. Without obtaining clearance from the tower, it turned onto taxiway A near where the aircraft was taxiing. The vehicle then left the maneuvering area and entered a service road.
Cause
The PKBWL determined that the cause of the incident was an error by the ground vehicle driver, who failed to follow the instruction issued by the air traffic controller.
Aftermath
An analysis of the event was conducted with the involved individual, highlighting the mistakes made. The material gathered during the investigation was to be used during periodic training. The PKBWL did not issue any safety recommendations after concluding the investigation.
