What happened
On September 11, 2015, at 10:39 UTC, a Tecnam P2002-JF, registration SP-TWR, was performing a training flight at Łódź-Lublinek Airport [EPLL]. While landing on runway 07L, the aircraft experienced a tire burst after completing the landing roll. The pilot brought the aircraft to a stop on the runway and immediately reported the failure, noting that the aircraft was unable to taxi further.
Following the incident, flight operations on runway 07L were suspended. The airport's operational staff and authorities were notified, and the aircraft was cleared from the runway by approximately 10:50 UTC. The disruption affected several other aircraft in the vicinity, including SP-VOR, which was instructed to perform a go-around, as well as SP-SSK and SP-KOG, which were performing training approaches. Additionally, glider operations on the adjacent grass runway 07R were briefly paused following the departure of glider SP-3236.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the tire failure and the subsequent impact on airport operations. Investigators examined the sequence of events from the moment of landing until the runway was cleared and reopened for use.
