Summary
On 11 September 2015, at approximately 10:39 UTC, a Tecnam P2002-JF aircraft, registered SP-TWR, operated by a training center, was conducting training flights at Łódź-Lublinek Airport (EPLL). After landing on runway 07L, the aircraft experienced a tire burst upon touchdown. Following the landing roll, the aircraft came to a stop on the runway and was unable to taxi. The pilot reported the tire burst and the inability to continue taxiing.
Sequence of Events
Air traffic control was notified, and operations on runway 07L were suspended. The airport rescue and firefighting service (LSP) and air traffic control (DOP) were informed. A subsequent aircraft, SP-VOR, which was on approach, was instructed to go around and hold in the downwind position. Two other aircraft, SP-SSK and SP-KOG, were also waiting to conduct training approaches without landing. Simultaneously, glider operations were underway on the grass runway 07R. After a glider (SP-3236) landed and vacated runway 07R, glider flights were halted for 10 minutes. SP-VOR subsequently landed on runway 07R, while SP-SSK and SP-KOG performed low passes over the same runway. SP-TWR was removed from runway 07L at approximately 10:50 UTC with assistance from the rescue and firefighting service and air traffic control. After inspection by air traffic control, operations on runway 07L resumed.
Investigation
The investigation did not establish a cause for the tire burst. A contributing circumstance noted was the considerable intensity of aircraft utilization in training flights. No safety recommendations were issued.
