What happened
On September 26, 2016, a Cessna 205, registration N8433Z, was performing a landing in Ellington, Connecticut, under visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 10 statute miles and winds from 340 degrees at 4 knots.
During the landing roll, the pilot determined that the aircraft would not stop within the remaining runway distance. In response, the pilot aborted the landing and initiated a go-around. During the initial climb phase, the aircraft entered an aerodynamic stall and struck the terrain approximately 300 feet beyond the runway threshold. The pilot was not injured.
The investigation
The investigation noted that the fuselage and both wings of the aircraft sustained substantial damage. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures prior to the accident that would have prevented normal operation.
