What happened

On March 7, 2019, a GoAir Airbus A320 was operating at a cruise altitude of FL380 when the aircraft experienced a failure of the No. 1 (left) engine. The flight crew received an ENG1 HEAT SYSTEM FAULT indication, which was followed by an ENG1 OIL LOW PR warning.

In response to the engine failure, the pilot shut down the No. 1 engine. The aircraft, registered as VT-WGT, was diverted to Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (LKO) in Lucknow, India. The crew performed a successful single-engine landing at the airport. There were no injuries resulting from the incident.

The investigation

Post-landing inspections of the aircraft revealed the presence of oil traces in several areas, including the exhaust area nozzle, the tail cone, the drain mast, and the thrust reverser cowl area located underneath the drain mast.
