What happened

On January 7, 2020, a GoAir Airbus A320-271N Neo was operating a flight from Delhi Airport, India, to Varanasi Airport, India, when it experienced an engine failure. The aircraft, registered VT-WGC, was powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW1127G-JM geared turbofan engines.

Following the failure, the crew performed an in-flight shutdown of the affected engine. The flight was diverted for an air turn back, and the aircraft completed an uneventful landing. There were no injuries resulting from the incident.

The investigation

An inspection of the engine conducted after the landing confirmed a low pressure turbine 3rd stage blade failure. The NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist the government of India with the investigation under ICAO Annex 13 provisions.
