What happened
On September 6, 2019, a powered hang glider was conducting a flight from Legnica to Lubiąż with one passenger on board. While flying near the village of Spalona at an altitude of approximately 100 meters, the engine ceased functioning.
In response to the loss of power, the pilot attempted an emergency landing. During the descent, the powered hang glider struck a wooden fence belonging to a nearby property. The impact caused the aircraft to overturn before it ultimately came to rest in a local pond. Both the pilot and the passenger were able to exit the aircraft on their own and did not sustain any injuries.
The investigation
The investigation conducted by the PKBWL established that the individual operating the aircraft did not possess the required pilot qualifications or flight certificates. Due to the fact that the flight was being conducted by an unlicensed person, the Commission declined to proceed with a full investigation of the occurrence.
