Incident Overview
On 22 August 2020, at 05:30 UTC, a Beechcraft King Air 90A, registration SP-ISS, departed from EPBC for a photogrammetry flight with an intended landing at EPRZ. After reaching flight level FL25 and stabilizing engine parameters for level flight, at approximately 06:05 UTC, the pilot observed a slight power loss on the left engine. The pilot notified air traffic control (ATC) of the situation and requested a return to Modlin Airport (EPMO).
Emergency Landing
During the approach to EPMO, while descending with reduced power, the left engine experienced a sudden power loss and subsequently shut down. The pilot executed a single-engine emergency landing and afterwards taxied to the hangar without further issues.
Investigation Findings
According to the Polish State Commission on Aircraft Accident Investigation (Państwowa Komisja Badania Wypadków Lotniczych), the cause of the incident was a faulty fuel system due to a malfunction of the Fuel Control Unit. The investigation noted that the Fuel Control Unit was replaced, and the issue did not recur.
