What happened

On the evening of 16 April 2023, a Porter Airlines Inc. De Havilland DHC-8-402, registered C-GLQB, was operating an instrument flight rules (IFR) service from Sault Ste. Marie Airport (CYAM) to Toronto/Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (CYTZ). The flight was carrying 52 passengers and a total of four crew members, including two pilots and two cabin crew.

As the aircraft approached Runway 12 at CYTZ, the flight crew completed the landing sequence. However, following the touchdown, the aircraft failed to stop within the runway limits and overran the end of the pavement. The aircraft eventually came to a rest in a muddy grass area located approximately 350 feet past the runway threshold. There were no injuries reported among the passengers or crew, and the aircraft sustained no damage during the excursion.
