Occurrence
On 16 April 2023, at approximately 2122 Eastern Daylight Time, a Porter Airlines Inc. De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited DHC-8-402 (registration C-GLQB, serial number 4130) departed from Toronto/Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (CYTZ), Ontario, on an instrument flight rules flight to Sault Ste. Marie Airport (CYAM), Ontario. The aircraft carried 2 flight crew members, 2 cabin crew members, and 52 passengers.
Upon arrival at CYAM, the flight crew performed an approach for Runway 12. After touchdown, the aircraft overran the end of the runway. It came to a stop in muddy grass approximately 350 feet beyond the runway end. No injuries were reported, and the aircraft sustained no damage.
Investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) initiated a class 3 investigation into the occurrence. Class 3 investigations focus on a small number of safety issues and may result in recommendations. This investigation is expected to be completed within 450 days. As of the investigation notice, no probable cause has been stated.
