What happened
On 28 June 2024, a Bombardier DHC-8-402 operated by Porter Airlines Inc. was performing an approach to land at Fredericton International Airport in New Brunswick. During the landing sequence, the aircraft experienced a hard landing that resulted in the aft fuselage striking the runway. Following the impact, the flight crew initiated a go-around procedure. The aircraft subsequently returned to the airport and landed again without any further complications.
The investigation
Following the event, a post-flight inspection of the aircraft was conducted. This inspection revealed substantial damage to the main landing gear. Additionally, inspectors identified damage to the underside of the fuselage in the area near the rear cargo door. The damage was reported immediately following the discovery.
