Occurrence
On 28 June 2024, a Bombardier Inc. DHC-8-402 aircraft, operated by Porter Airlines Inc., was on approach to land at Fredericton International Airport, New Brunswick. During the landing, the aircraft experienced a hard landing and an aft fuselage strike. In response, the flight crew initiated a go-around and subsequently returned to land without further incident.
Following the landing, a post-flight inspection of the aircraft revealed substantial damage to the main landing gear and to the underside of the fuselage near the rear cargo door. The damage was reported immediately.
Investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) classified this occurrence as a Class 4 investigation. Class 4 investigations are limited in scope, and while the final reports may contain limited analysis, they do not include findings or recommendations. Such investigations are generally completed within 220 days, as outlined in the Policy on Occurrence Classification.
