Beech King Air A100 sustains damage following tree strike near Wemindji Airport

A medical evacuation flight involving a Beech King Air A100 experienced a loss of altitude during takeoff from Wemindji, Quebec, resulting in a collision with trees.

What happened

On 04 September 2024, a Beech King Air A100 operated by Propair Inc. was performing an instrument flight rules (IFR) medical evacuation mission. The flight originated from Wemindji Airport, Quebec, and was destined for Chisasibi Airport, Quebec. On board the aircraft were two crew members and three passengers.

Shortly after departing from Runway 28, the aircraft entered a descent during its initial climb. This descent caused the aircraft to strike trees located roughly 700 m from the end of the runway. Following the impact, the crew managed to regain a positive rate of climb and subsequently landed the aircraft on Runway 10. There were no injuries reported among the five occupants.

The TSB examined the damage sustained by the aircraft during the event. The impact with the trees resulted in substantial damage to several components, including the wings, the propeller, the nacelle, the right engine, and the right horizontal stabilizer.
