What happened
During a flight originating from Kandahar, an aircraft transporting ammunition was performing its descent toward Mazari Sharif. As the crew maneuvered through low cloud cover, visibility was significantly reduced. Upon descending beneath the cloud layer, the four-engine aircraft was hit by a surface-to-air missile.
The impact resulted in the immediate failure of both left engines. Following the loss of engine power, the plane crashed approximately 40 km away from Mazari Sharif Airport. The accident resulted in eight fatalities, with no survivors reported among the occupants.
Findings
Investigations into the crash determined that the primary factor leading to the destruction of the aircraft was an engagement by a surface-to-air missile.
