What happened
During the landing phase of the flight, a four-engine aircraft experienced a heavy impact upon contacting the runway. The force of this hard touchdown resulted in the immediate collapse of the right main landing gear. Following the structural failure of the gear, the aircraft lost directional control and veered toward the right side of the runway.
The aircraft subsequently exited the paved surface and traveled into an area of deep snow where it eventually came to a stop. While the incident resulted in the aircraft being declared a total loss due to damage beyond repair, there were zero fatalities and zero injuries reported among those on board.
Findings
- The primary sequence began with a high-impact touchdown.
- The collapse of the right main gear was the immediate precursor to the loss of control.
- The aircraft's trajectory led it off the runway into heavy snow accumulation.
