What happened
The incident occurred while the aircraft was maintaining its cruising altitude. During this phase of flight, the plane was struck by a surface-to-air missile launched from the ground. The impact caused the aircraft to lose control and crash in the vicinity of Logar.
Of the individuals aboard, fifty were killed in the accident. Twenty others survived the incident despite the severity of the crash.
Findings
Official investigations concluded that the primary cause of the accident was the aircraft being shot down by a surface-to-air missile. This hostile action directly led to the destruction of the aircraft and the subsequent casualties.
