What happened
During a night-time descent toward Mazari Sharif Airport, an aircraft collided with a mountain slope in the vicinity of Samangan. The accident occurred amidst challenging weather conditions. Following the impact, the aircraft disintegrated, and the wreckage was located several hours later, approximately 65 km southeast of Mazari Sharif.
All 76 occupants on board the aircraft perished in the crash. The passengers were civilians traveling to Mazari Sharif for a commemorative event marking the victory of Afghan rebels over the Kabul-based communist government.
