Accident Details
The accident occurred after a normal takeoff roll from runway 29R at Tehran-Mehrabad Airport. As the pilot-in-command pulled on the control column and initiated rotation, one of the engines failed. Control of the aircraft was subsequently lost, and it crashed, bursting into flames.
Injuries and Fatalities
Three passengers sustained serious injuries in the crash. Thirty-five other occupants were killed. All three survivors died from their injuries a few hours after the accident.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined the probable cause to be loss of control at liftoff after one of the engines failed for undetermined reasons.
