What happened
The incident occurred during a local solo training flight conducted by a pilot at Fort McLeod Airport. While on final approach, the aircraft was at an altitude between 150 and 250 feet when it struck a second Avro 652 Anson registered 6958. The other aircraft was carrying two crew members.
Following the mid-air collision, both airplanes entered an uncontrolled descent. They impacted the ground approximately 400 metres from the end of the runway and immediately burst into flames. All three individuals aboard the two aircraft were killed in the accident.
Findings
The official investigation concluded that the pilots of either aircraft failed to see each other prior to the impact.
