What happened
The incident occurred during a solo training flight conducted by a pilot at Saskatoon Airport. While maneuvering in a circling pattern in the immediate vicinity of the airfield, the aircraft collided with a second plane. The other aircraft involved was an Avro Anson registered as 6103, which was operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force and also carried a single pilot.
At the time of the impact, both crews were engaged in a formation exercise. Following the mid-air collision, both airplanes lost control and descended rapidly into the ground. The force of the impact resulted in the total destruction of both airframes. Tragically, both pilots sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
