What happened
The incident occurred during a local solo training flight conducted by the pilot at RCAF Hagersville. The aircraft was on a circuit to land at night when it encountered severe weather conditions. Specifically, a snowstorm reduced visibility and impacted handling characteristics. The pilot subsequently lost control of the airplane, leading to a crash in the vicinity of the airbase. The impact resulted in the destruction of the aircraft and the death of the pilot.
Findings
The official investigation concluded that the loss of control was directly caused by the adverse weather conditions encountered during the approach phase.
