A two-crew aircraft crashed into Lake Ontario during a low-altitude instrument mission, resulting in the deaths of both personnel on board.

What happened

The flight originated from Picton with the objective of conducting an instrument flying mission. During the cruise phase at low altitude, witnesses observed the aircraft performing a stall turn followed by a loop before it descended into Lake Ontario. The impact site was located approximately 16 kilometers east of Waupoos Island. Both members of the crew were killed in the accident.

Findings

The official investigation determined that the accident resulted from a loss of control. This loss of control occurred following unauthorized low flying performed by part of the crew.
