What happened
During an unauthorized flight operation, an aircraft carrying a 200 kg cargo of cocaine crashed in a forested region situated near San Pedro de Peralta. The flight was being operated by a crew consisting of two pilots. During the transit, the crew encountered an unforeseen situation that necessitated an emergency landing attempt. The subsequent impact resulted in one fatality and left the second pilot with serious injuries.
Findings
Investigations into the incident revealed that the aircraft was being used for the transport of illegal narcotics. The aircraft, which was originally identified by the registration N299GS, had been removed from the United States registry on 15 February 2018 and subsequently moved to Mexico. While some records suggested the registration N18BA, this was determined to be an inaccurate identification. The primary factor leading to the crash was the unforeseen emergency situation encountered during the flight.
