What happened
The incident occurred while the aircraft was conducting a bombing mission targeting bridges in the area of Péronne. The flight originated from Pont-sur-Yonne. During the operation, the plane came under attack from German anti-aircraft artillery, specifically Flak fire. This engagement caused the aircraft to lose control and enter an uncontrolled descent. The machine ultimately crashed into a swampy region, where it burned completely. All five members of the crew perished in the accident.
Findings
The official investigation determined that the primary cause of the crash was the impact from German Flak fire. This external attack led directly to the loss of control and the subsequent fatal impact with the ground.
