What happened
Following an extended takeoff roll on runway 32, the aircraft struggled to achieve adequate altitude. Shortly after departing the runway, the plane maintained an altitude of approximately six meters before colliding with power lines, trees, and residential structures. The sequence of impacts culminated in a massive explosion on a soccer field situated roughly 560 meters beyond the runway threshold. The force of the impact caused the aircraft to disintegrate, leading to the destruction of several nearby buildings.
The accident resulted in 113 fatalities, including all three crew members and 110 individuals on the ground. Additionally, 32 people sustained injuries, many of which were classified as serious. While weather conditions were noted as marginal during the incident, they were not identified as a factor in the crash.
Findings
Investigations into the wreckage revealed that no engine, structural, or flight control failures occurred during the flight. However, investigators determined that the primary cause was the crew's failure to utilize the correct takeoff speed due to improper flight preparation and an incorrect takeoff configuration.
Several contributing elements were identified during the inquiry:
- Fatigue experienced by the crew
- A misinterpretation of the conditions during takeoff
- The decision not to abort the takeoff procedure despite the difficulties encountered
