What happened
While performing a takeoff roll on runway 17, the aircraft experienced a sudden loss of power in the right engine once it reached a speed of 107 knots. In response to the engine failure, the crew elected to abort the takeoff and applied emergency braking to halt the aircraft.
Despite these efforts, the aircraft was unable to come to a complete stop within the 1,995-meter length of the runway. The aircraft type overran the end of the pavement, traveling an additional 120 meters before striking a group of trees.
There were 40 occupants on board during the incident. While all individuals were successfully rescued from the wreckage, six passengers sustained injuries. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The primary factor in the excursion was the loss of power in the right engine during the high-speed portion of the takeoff roll.
