What happened
During a flight from Arequilpa to Juliaca, the crew of an aircraft experienced a significant mechanical issue involving the right main landing gear. The gear became jammed and failed to extend from the main wheel well. Despite efforts by the crew to deploy the landing gear manually, the mechanism remained stuck.
Due to this technical failure, the pilot elected to divert the flight to Tacna to perform an emergency landing. During the approach, the aircraft touched down 280 metres beyond the threshold of runway 20. Following the initial contact with the runway, the plane veered toward the right side of the pavement and traveled a total of 600 metres from the point of touchdown before coming to a complete stop.
There were no casualties during the incident, as all 65 occupants were able to evacuate the plane without injury. The aircraft sustained damage and was rendered non-operational.
Findings
- The primary issue was a jammed right main landing gear that prevented proper deployment.
- Manual extension procedures were unsuccessful in resolving the blockage in the wheel well.
