What happened
During a local training mission at Loma Bonita Airport, an aircraft failed to stop within the available runway length following touchdown. The runway at the facility measures 1,400 meters in length. After the aircraft made contact with the ground, the crew attempted to apply the necessary braking procedures; however, the momentum of the plane carried it past the end of the paved surface. The aircraft traveled approximately 100 meters beyond the runway before coming to a complete stop.
Following the overrun, a fire broke out and quickly consumed the aircraft. Despite the intensity of the flames, all six occupants successfully evacuated the plane without sustaining any injuries.
Findings
While the aircraft was lost to the fire, the primary factor in the incident was the inability to decelerate sufficiently on the remaining runway. Additionally, the response from local emergency services was noted as a factor in the loss of the airframe, as the local fire crews lacked the necessary training and specialized equipment to effectively suppress the blaze.
