What happened
A flight traveling from Lima-Jorge Chavez Airport to Jauja, carrying 142 passengers and 7 crew members, experienced a significant incident during its arrival at Jauja-Francisco Carlé Airport. The flight proceeded normally through the approach phase under favorable weather conditions. However, shortly after the nose gear made contact with runway 31, the crew engaged the reverse thrust systems. Immediately following this action, the aircraft began to experience intense oscillations and vibrations.
As the aircraft continued to bounce, the crew lost control of the vehicle. During the sequence, the right main landing gear failed, causing the aircraft to veer toward the right side of the runway. The impact resulted in the loss of the right engine, and the aircraft eventually exited the paved surface into a nearby grassy area. A fire broke out upon impact, leading to the total destruction of the aircraft type. Despite the intensity of the flames, all 149 occupants managed to evacuate the wreckage without any fatalities or injuries.
Findings
- The incident was triggered by strong vibrations and oscillations occurring immediately after the application of reverse thrust following the initial touchdown.
