What happened
An aircraft arriving from Karachi was performing its approach to runway 36L at Lahore-Allama Muhammad Iqbal Airport. The flight proceeded without incident until the moment of touchdown. Once the aircraft had landed, the crew began applying the brakes to slow the vehicle. During this braking phase, the left main landing gear experienced a partial collapse.
This mechanical failure led to a loss of directional control, causing the aircraft to veer toward the right side of the runway. The movement continued until the plane came to a stop in a nearby grassy area. Despite the impact, all 172 occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury. The aircraft itself sustained damage that was determined to be beyond repair.
Findings
- The primary factor in the loss of control was the partial collapse of the left main landing gear during the braking process following touchdown.
