Landing gear collapse during arrival at Antalya Airport

No fatalities • Antalya, Turkey • Landing (descent or approach)

A landing gear failure during the landing phase at Antalya Airport resulted in an aircraft fire and significant damage, though all passengers and crew evacuated without injury.

What happened

During an arrival from Karlsruhe-Baden-Baden, the crew of the aircraft was performing the standard landing checklist for runway 18C at Antalya Airport. The flight proceeded without incident until the moment of touchdown. Immediately following contact with the runway, the aircraft experienced significant vibrations and began drifting toward the right side of the runway.

During this deviation, the right main landing gear suffered a structural collapse. This failure caused the right engine nacelle to make contact with the runway surface. The resulting friction between the metal components and the ground ignited a fire within the right main wheel well. The aircraft eventually halted its movement slightly to the right of the runway centerline.

Findings

  • The 162 occupants of the aircraft were able to evacuate the vessel safely.
  • The incident resulted in no fatalities or injuries.
  • The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.

Probable cause

The collapse of the right main landing gear during the landing roll led to engine nacelle contact with the ground and a subsequent fire.
