What happened
Upon completing its arrival at Holitipu Airport, a twin engine aircraft made contact with various pieces of construction equipment located on the airfield. The impact occurred immediately following the aircraft's touchdown on the runway. Following the collision, the plane came to a complete stop at the site of the accident.
Despite the significant impact, there were no injuries reported among those on board. However, the structural damage sustained during the event was severe enough that the aircraft was declared a total loss and rendered beyond repair.
Findings
Investigations into the incident highlighted two primary lapses in operational communication. First, the airport authority did not issue a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) to alert incoming flights regarding the ongoing construction activities on the field. Second, the pilot did not successfully obtain necessary updates regarding the current state of the destination airport's surface conditions prior to landing.
