What happened
During a scheduled flight from Langur to Larat, a Casa 212-200, registered PK-NCZ, experienced a runway excursion upon arrival. The flight, operated by PT. Merpati Nusantara Airlines, was performing its second landing at the Larat airstrip on that day. During the landing sequence, the aircraft touched down 224 meters from the threshold of runway 09. Following the initial contact, the aircraft bounced twice while drifting to the left of the runway centerline.
As the aircraft continued along the runway, the Pilot in Command took control from the First Officer, who had been acting as the pilot flying. Despite efforts by the Pilot in Command to steer the aircraft back toward the centerline, the plane continued to roll toward the left shoulder. The aircraft eventually exited the paved surface and came to a rest 607 meters from the touchdown area, positioned 15 meters to the left of the runway edge.
At the time of the incident, the aircraft was carrying a total of 19 people, including the Pilot in Command, two First Officers, and one engineer. The passenger manifest consisted of 15 passengers, which included three children and one infant. The excursion resulted in two injuries, specifically one passenger suffering serious injuries and another sustaining minor injuries.
Findings
- The aircraft drifted left of the runway centerline following two bounces during the landing phase.
- The pilot was unable to maintain control of the aircraft's lateral path after the second bounce, leading to the excursion onto the runway shoulder.
