Belize City Municipal Airport Approach Accident Involving V3-HFD

Incident Overview and Flight Details A single-engine aircraft, registered V3-HFD, landed at Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport from San Pedro Airport, Ambergris Caye, carrying two passengers. The pilot remained in the aircraft on the apron while the passengers disembarked. After receiving clearance from the Air Traffic Control Tower, the aircraft, now without passengers, took off at 0720LT for Belize City Municipal Airport. ## Radio Communications and Approach At 0722LT, the pilot reported passing the Haulover Bridge and was instructed by ATC to change to frequency 122.8 MHz, a common broadcast frequency used by pilots to transmit positions and intentions. No further radio transmissions or distress calls were made to ATC after this report. ## Crash and Aftermath While approaching Belize City Municipal Airport at a very low altitude, the aircraft struck power cables and crashed onto a house in the Belama Phase 2 district, bursting into flames. The wreckage was located approximately 3 km southwest of the runway 12 threshold. The pilot was killed, and one person on the ground was injured. The aircraft was destroyed by impact forces and a post-crash fire.
