Flight Details
A pilot operating on behalf of Morningstar Air Express departed from Sault Sainte Marie Airport in southern Ontario during the morning for a local training flight. For reasons that remain unclear, the pilot did not establish or maintain radio communication with the company's base or air traffic control (ATC) during the flight.
Accident
Instead of remaining in the local training area, the aircraft continued northward for approximately 1,200 kilometers. It eventually crashed under unknown circumstances into Hudson Bay, roughly 500 kilometers east of Churchill, Manitoba. The impact destroyed the aircraft, and the pilot sustained fatal injuries.
Investigation
Canadian authorities investigated the accident but were unable to determine why the pilot deviated from the planned flight path or failed to communicate. No distress calls were made, and the exact sequence of events leading to the crash remains unclear. The official probable cause stated that the exact cause of the accident remains unknown.
