What happened
During an unauthorized flight, a pilot operating a twin engine aircraft attempted to land at a private airstrip located in Punta Ocote. During the final approach, the aircraft struck the tops of trees before crashing onto a nearby road. The impact was followed by a post-crash fire that completely destroyed the airframe.
While the pilot managed to escape the wreckage without any injuries, the accident resulted in one fatality. An 18-year-old motorcyclist traveling on the road was killed as a result of the crash. Investigations into the flight revealed that the pilot was transporting 25 kg of cocaine at the time of the incident.
