Incident
The accident occurred during a night climb shortly after the seaplane departed from Agana-Harmon Field. The aircraft suffered an engine failure while gaining altitude, forcing the crew to abort the flight and return for a safe landing. As the seaplane maneuvered back to the field and descended for landing, it stalled and crashed in the area near the airport.
Casualties
Three crew members were killed in the crash: Lcdr R. S. McClendon, Lt M. L. McGregor, and Sk3 H. J. Beltz. The two other individuals on board survived and were rescued.
Damage
The seaplane was destroyed in the accident.
Probable Cause
The official probable cause determined by the investigation was engine failure.
